Find it, don't feed it
Leak detection means locating the actual escape point — coils, line sets, fittings, valves — and fixing it, not just adding refrigerant on top of a known problem. Fix the leak once and the recharges stop.
Why it matters more now
Refrigerant gets more expensive as older types are phased out, which makes the top-it-off habit costlier every year. It also means a system running chronically low works harder, cools worse, and wears out sooner.
Signs you have a leak
Cooling that fades over weeks, ice on the refrigerant lines, hissing near the unit, or the same "needs a pound" conversation every summer. Any of those is worth a proper leak check.

Is a refrigerant leak dangerous?

Can every leak be fixed?
